The Progressive Farmer
Based in Birmingham, Alabama, The Progressive Farmer is a country life publication, geared specifically toward information on crop and livestock production, particularly in the Southeast United States. The publication was founded by Leonidas Lafayette Polk (not to be confused with the Confederate Army General, Leonidas Polk, even though they have the same name).
In the 1980s, the publication branched out and began covering Midwestern states. The new focus was significantly different than the original Southern magazine. Today, The Progressive Farmer is a national publication that provides news and information on agriculture, farm safety, rural recreation and lifestyle across the United States.
In 2008, Televent acquired DTN, bringing The Progressive Farmer and other publications under its parent brand. In 2011, Telvent was acquired by Scheider Electric Group.
